Always Be Thankful

Kaitlyn and Zoe are making a big mess! But after they clean it up, everything will be ok. Sometimes we have problems in our lives that seem like big messes. Things don’t always go the way we want them to. But do you know what? God wants us to be thankful anyway. He can make our big messes turn out ok.

My Bible Verse:
No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NLT)

My Prayer:
When things don’t always go my way,
Please help me know it will be ok.

God Is Pure and Faithful
God’s Seventh Commandment Shows That He is Pure and Faithful.

Bible Reading of the Day: Read Hebrews 13:4.
Verse of the Day: “Do not commit adultery” (Exodus 20:14)

The church was decorated with white candles and ribbons. People continued to file into the sanctuary. Terry and his family had been seated a few minutes earlier and were waiting for the wedding to start.

Terry saw his mom and dad trade wedding rings. He leaned across his sister, Anna, and tapped his mom on the arm. “Why did you do that?” he asked, pointing to the ring she held in her hand.

Mom smiled. “I’ll tell you after the wedding.” she whispered.
Once the crowd was seated and the ceremony started, Terry turned back to ask his mom to tell him why she had exchanged rings with his dad, but she simply smiled and shook her head when he started to speak

Finally, when the ceremony was over, Terry squeezed by his sister before his parents could stand up. “Why did you and Dad trade rings?” he asked. He looked at his mom’s hand and noticed that she wore her own ring again.

“Your father and I do that every time we attend a wedding.” she said.
Dad leaned closer to his son. “I gave that ring to your mother on our wedding day, a long time ago,” he said, twirling the gold band on his finger. “These rings are symbols of the vows we exchanged that day.”

Terry wrinkled his nose to reflect his confusion.
Dad interlaced his fingers with Mom’s and held their hands up so Terry could see both rings. “We wear these rings,” Dad said, “to remind each other of our promise to love each other and to be pure and faithful to each other for the rest of our lives.”
”And every time we attend a wedding,” Mom said, “we repeat those promises all over again. That’s why we traded rings at the beginning of the ceremony, so we could promise all over again to be faithful to each other.”
”Because, you see, Son,” Dad continued, “when we’re pure and faithful to each other, we please God, because that’s what God is like. He is pure and faithful himself. Our marriage is beautiful because it reflects the character of God.”

”Oh,” Terry said. “Can I ask you another question?”
Mom and Dad nodded together.
”Can we go eat now?” he said, thinking of the wedding cake. “I’m hungry.”
Mom and Dad laughed, as they walked out of the ceremony together.

TO DO: Make a card for a couple you know who have been married for a long time. Let them know how much their faithfulness to each other has meant to you over the years.

TO PRAY: “Lord, we praise you for your purity and for your faithfulness. Help us to reflect your character.”

The statistics are staggering. Researchers estimate that two-thirds of young people will drop out of church by their early twenties. Why?

Churches may do an excellent job on Sunday mornings, but one hour a week is not enough. Still many parents have an outsourcing mentality when it comes to their children's spiritually…

H1N1 and Children’s Ministry

The primary concern of parents is the safety and well being of their children. Powered Up Children’s Ministries is currently working to address the growing concerns regarding this virus. Some things we are currently working on:

- Hand sanitizing stations have been installed in each children’s room
- Sick child policies are being reviewed and updated
- Staff will meet in early September to review policies/procedures
- A letter will go out to parents in early September outlining the steps we plan to take to keep their children safe and healthy

While we are not alarmed by the threat of this virus and place our trust in our Great Physician, we do acknowledge that God has given us the knowledge and resources with which we can minimize the risks of spreading germs/infection…and we strive to do this to the best of our knowledge and abilities.

Our mission: “Building World Changers for Christ”

WHAT WE STRIVE TO DO:

Building World Changers by:
- Being Missional: Giving children a mission (To Be World Changers for Christ), to help them understand what we are preparing them to do…and what we expect from them
- Being Knowledgeable: Teaching strong Biblical content to children, and being well prepared
- Being Relevant: Building a bridge between biblical content and the every day life of the child…Helping them answer the questions “Why should I care? What’s the point? How does this apply to me?”
- Being Personal: Creating measuring points for children as they seek to take the lesson, apply it, and make it personal in their everyday lives…so they know when they “get it right”. This is breaking down Biblical concepts into Biblical pictures of real-life situations where kids see these principles lived out using drama, movie clips, video, testimonies of adults/kids, discussion, etc.
- Being Relational: Developing mentor-like relationships with children in small group settings, getting to know them personally, really investing time and effort into them: encouraging them, holding them accountable for accomplishing the mission before them (To Be World Changers for Christ), and praying for/with them.

WHAT WE NEED:
Parents: We need parents to partner with us…working side-by-side with us as we together build WORLD CHANGERS for CHRIST
Volunteers: We need dedicated volunteers who will gladly give their time and energy, whole-heartedly working together to build WORLD CHANGERS for CHRIST

Treasure Hunt: Grades K-5

What's more precious than jewels but available to all who seek it? Screams to get your attention but eludes you if you ignore it? Has a definite starting point but knows no end? Here's a hint:

YES! It's wisdom, which is finding out what you should do and doing it. God says if you accept His words and store up His commands inside you, tune your ear to wisdom and apply your heart to understanding, call out for insight and search for it as you would for hidden treasure, then you will find out how to know Him. He is the one who gives wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, the one who stores up success for His followers, the one who shields them from harm, guards their paths, and leads them in the right direction. (See Proverbs 2:1-11. In fact, see all of Proverbs for a whole trove of the treasures of wisdom.) Put that way, who in his right mind wouldn't dig wisdom? Dig for wisdom? Dig and dig for wisdom?
So in September, we'll be on the hunt for gems of wisdom, helping kids understand that God wants to give you wisdom. Wisdom is worth searching for. If you want to be wise, hang out with wise people. And wisdom is knowing AND doing.
So get your shovel out and let's go dig for wisdom. It's worth it.
